[Drama] Rock Rock Rock

Starting from December 11 , a mini drama (4 episodes – 2 episodes will be aired at once) based on Boohwal’s leader Kim Tae-Won’s life story will start broadcasting on KBS 2 at 10.15  pm. The title? “Rock Rock Rock” (락 rock 樂).

Details here: [Behind-the-production]-Rock-Rock-Rock (click)

What’s interesting about the drama:

1. Do you call that a question? It tells the story of Kim Tae-Won. What more reason do you need? 🙂

2. No Min-Woo is playing Kim Tae-Won’s role. Actually, I did’t understand how that works~^^; No Min-Woo is a really really pretty actor, and Kim Tae-Won’s image is quite the opposite. Except for the long hair and the skinny posture they pretty much have nothing in common. That’s before I know that No Min-Woo actually has music-background. He used to play the drum for the group “Trax” before he left to pave way as an actor. The guy can play guitar well (so I read) and I know that he can sing (Kim Tae-Won used to sing when Boohwal first debut, not so much now but he has husky voice -unlike No), which are I think the main points why he was casted for the part.

3. I know that some Boohwal members will appear in some or certain episodes in the drama as cameo

4. Boohwal, or actually pre-Boohwal member (band “The End”), rock vocalist Kim Jong-Seo will also appear in the drama, not as himself, but playing the part of Kim Tae-Won’s uncle. It should be interesting, coz Kim Jong-Seo was the reason I got to know about Boohwal. And of course, it’s funny that he’s playing the uncle of Kim Tae-Won, who’s actually his friend – and also with the fact that he was the band’s first vocalist. ^^

Okay, that’s what I at least I could gather before the drama actually starts playing.

The drama will play in 2 weeks only, two episodes run continuously each Saturday on Dec 11 and Dec 18. The timing couldn’t be better, since the drama will air just right before Boohwal’s Christmas Concert in Seoul on Dec 24 and 25~ ^^

[Boohwal Best] 이솝의 붓

[이솝의 붓], Aesop’s brush. The only “Best” album Boohwal ever produced. Released in 1996, just before the production of the 5th album started. Boohwal’s lead singer at the moment was Park Wan-Gyu. The best album, though, compiled the voices of Boohwal’s previous 3 vocalist, and Park Wan-Gyu.

The album contains 10 songs as follow:

1. 사랑할수록 (The More I Love), remake version from Boohwal’s 3rd album “Loss of Memory” (기억상실).
The original version as inserted in the 3rd album was sung by Kim Jegi, and the remake in this album was sung by his brother Kim Jae-Hee.

2. 기억이 부르는 날에 (On a day that calls my memory back), the same version as inserted in Boohwal’s 4th Album “About Worldly Thoughts” (잡념에 관하여)
Personally, this is  one of the best Boohwal’s songs I’ve ever heard. The voice, the music, everything feels like cutting into me..  Well, I admit I’m not the best in expression ^^;;

3. 비와 당신의 이야기 (The Story of You and the Rain), as inserted in Boohwal’s 1st Album “Rock Will Never Die”

4. 슬픈사슴 (Sad Deer), as inserted in Boohwal’s 2nd album “Remember”
(a remake version of this song could also be found in Boohwal’s 12th album)

5. 회상 I (Reminiscence I),  as inserted in Boohwal’s 2nd album “Remember”

6. 회상 III (Reminiscence III), as inserted in Boohwal’s 2nd album “Remember”

7. 소나기 (Rain Shower), a remake version from Boohwal’s 3rd album “Loss of Memory” (기억상실).
The original version as inserted in the 3rd album was sung by Kim Jegi, and the remake in this album was sung by his incumbent vocalist Park Wan-Gyu.

8. 시쓰는 시인의 시 (A Poem by a Poet), as inserted in Boohwal’s 4th Album “About Worldly Thoughts” (잡념에 관하여)

9. 드나드는 그리움 (Longing), as inserted in Boohwal’s 4th album.
The note in the album emphasize on the bass and drum beautiful sound in the latter part of the song.

10. 희야 (Heeya), as inserted in Boohwal’s 1st album “Rock Will Never Die”
The only song in this album that is not written and composed by Kim Tae-Won.

Brief about the two other “gods” (you can find Kim Tae-Won’s profile on “About Boohwal” or under “Kim Tae-Won” category on the left hand side.
.

Kim Do-Gyun (김두균) is the main guitarist of the rock band “Baekdusan” (백두산). In the 80’s, together with Boohwal (부활) and Sinawe (시나위), they are the biggest and the most hard core rock band in Korea. This is also the reason the three gutarists from the three bands were also called the best guitarists in Korea.

From 1985 to 1987 he remained in the band “Baekdusan” before he left for UK. The band got together again for a while in 1992 to release a best album, before they went back their separate ways.

The band got together again last year in 2009, when they released their 4th album titled “Return of the King.”

The band consist of Kim Do-Gyun himself on guitar, Yoo Hyun-Sang as vocalist, Park Chan playing the drum, and Kyung Ho-Jin playing bass.

.

Next, the youngest smong the three “Gods”, Sin Dae-Chul (산대철). The front-man in heavy metal band “Sinawe” (시나위). They debuted earlier than Boohwal in 1985, in fact, they scouted Boohwal’s former vocalist Kim Jong-Seo into the band.

The story of Sinawe is not much different than Boohwal, having changed their vocalist almost as often. Aside from Kim Jong-Seo, Lim Jae-Bom andKim Bada were  also former vocalists of Sinawe.

The current vocalist is Kang Han, with Lee Kyung-Han playing bass and Lee Dong-Yeop playing the drum.
