[Discovery of Fire]

Boohwal’s 5t album {불의 발견] Discovery of Fire, originally released in 1997. This album was recently re-produced, and may I say, with difficulty, after 14 years.

The image you see on the left is actually the new edition – the original one has the letters “부활 V 불의 발견” is white (or silver). Another different thing about this new edition is that, a special bonus track is inserted, no other than “Secret” (비밀) which was the first Collaboration Project Boohwal made with the original vocal for this 5th album, 박완규 (Park Wan-Gyu).

Of course, additional pages are also inserted in dedication to the Collaboration Song “Secret”, which hit the first place in many music charts in Korea as it was released~ this is important, coz the original Boohwal 5th album didn’t have anything to do with neither bassist Seo Jae-Hyuck nor drummer Chae-Jemin, who respectively joined Boohwal with the release of the 7th and 6th album.

The original members of Boohwal for the 5th album was bassist 정준교 (Jeong Jun-Gyo), drummer 정동철 (Jeong Dong-Cheol), guitarist Kim Tae Won, and vocalist Park Wan-Gyu. I got the picture on the right side from one Korean blogger, but it didn’t pin-point who’s who. Surely the guy in the center was Park Wan Gyu and Kim TaeWon’s on top-right. And 2 of the rest 3 have got to be Jeong Jun-Gyo and Jeong Dong-Cheol. Not sure who the 5th person is, but my guess is 최승찬 (Choi Seung-Chan) who used to play session on the keyboard for Boohwal from the 4th to 6th album.

This 5th album contains the songs:

1. Lonely Night
7. 믿음
8. 회상
9. 불의 발견 I
10. 불의 발견 II
11. 불의 발견 III

and ‘”비밀” (Secret) as special bonus track~

Personally, I find this album simply awesome. If you’re interested to hear a different color of Boohwal’s music, this 5th album will not disappoint you. For fans of hard-rock, I’d recommend 믿음 (belief). And 불의 발견 [Discovery of Fire] trilogy will present you with a strong instrumental synergy~ 🙂

In additional note, please know that the 7th album [Color] is also being re-produced, and will be back in the market from 20 June 2011!! Don’t wait until it’s too late to get yours! 🙂

[Boohwal Collaboration Project +2] is a genius project. Boohwal Entertainment had hinted that they will have four vocals for this second collaboration project, but never crossed my mind that they would collaborate 4 Boohwal former and current vocals. It’s simply genius!! In this song, you can hear Jeong Dong-Ha’s unique and powerful color, Lee Seong-Wook’s soft yet powerful voice, Jeong Dan’s rock flavor, and of course Park Wan Gyu’s strong high tone.

Again, the music video has been released now (look below), so please please please do not illegally download and share this song through sharing sites. Please use legal downloading sites such as bugs, m-netnaver or soribada.

Now, I would like to assume that you’re all familiar with the three invited vocalists whose voice are in this collaboration +2 project. (Park Wan-Kyu) was Boohwal’s vocalist from 1996-1997, and he was the main spotlight in Boohwal’s 5th Album [Discovery of Fire]. He was also the first partner for Boohwal Collaboration Project +1, singing “비밀” (Secret). (Lee Seong-Wook) was Boohwal’s vocalist in 2000, at the release of the7th album “Color”. The 7th album was also the first album that Seo Jae-Hyuck took part in after joining Boohwal. 정단 (Jeong Dan) was the last vocalist of Boohwal before Jeong Dongha came along. He was the vocalist in Boohwal’s 9th album [Over the Rainbow], as well as the OST of the movie “A Moment to Remember” (머리속에 지우게) which Kim Tae Won worked on the music for.

Well, only if you’re interested, I’d like to know how many people could make up the different voices among these four vocalist. If you can answer correctly whose voice are in each of the reddened parts (if you don’t read Korean, just divide it by paragraph), I’ll give a special video present to the first three people who come up with correct answers. The time limit is Saturday 12 pm Korean time. 😉 [over]

Now, a little bit about the song. “누구나 사랑을 한다” was originally sung by a senior female Korean singer 정훈희 (Jeong Hoon-Hee). The song was of course written and composed by Kim Tae Won, and inserted in her “40th Anniversary Celebration” album in 2008. Now, enjoy the music video of “누구나 사랑을 한다” (Everybody Love)~ ^^

3-5-7-9

The music video started with flashes of “8.1.1” from Boohwal’s 3rd album which was a song dedicated to Kim Jegi (김재기)(the instrumental song starts with the spelling of his name), “Lonely Night” from Boohwal’s 5th album which was sung by Park Wan-Gyu, “얀녕” (Goodbye) from Boohwal’s 7th album sung by Lee Sung-Wook, and “아름다운 사실” (Beautiful Truth) from Boohwal’s 9th sung by Jeong Dan. I think the reason “8.1.1” was also inserted is symbolic, if Kim Jegi were still alive today, he would be part of this album too.

(Everybody Love)

.

(Jeong Dong-Ha)
Now at this moment too, some people are in the process of loving,
even the word “separation” is unimaginable

(Park Wan Kyu)
While there is someone loving, there is someone separating
That a day we couldn’t predict is coming, we have no knowledge of

(Lee Seong-Wook)
We don’t know what tomorrow holds, we can only make predictions
The things we think of, the thinks for we hope for, are in the process of coming true

(Jeong Dan)
While there is someone loving, there is someone separating
That a day we couldn’t predict is coming, we have no knowledge of

(Jeong Dong-Ha)
We don’t know what tomorrow holds, we can only make predictions
The things we think of, the thinks for we hope for, are in the process of coming true

Always

(Jeong Dan)
A beautiful story for someday, coming true through somebody’s wish
On a day no body can predicts, always

(Lee Seong-Wook)
We don’t know what tomorrow holds, we can only make predictions
(Park Wan-Kyu)
The things we think of, the thinks for we hope for, are in the process of coming true

(Together)
Everybody imagines, a beautiful story someday
The difficult days I can’t bear, you and I made it to this moment

(Together)
Everybody imagines, a beautiful story someday
The difficult days I can’t bear, you and I

(Jeong Dan)
made it to this moment

21 C 불경기 [21st Century Recession]

For the last few weeks, I’ve been listening only Boohwal’s 5th album~ there’s a color that I had not find in any other Boohwal albums.

First, the 5th album has the strongest rock flavor to it, probably the only other album that’s comparably strong is the second album released in 1986.

Second, this 5th album, which was released in 1997 when the economic crisis hit Asia the biggest for the first time, also reflect the social condition at the moment of its release. This particular song, 21C 불경기, literally means “Recession in the 21st Century”. This is so much different from the rest of Kim Tae Won’s songs that reflect personal experiences.

And I think it goes without explanation that Boohwal 5th album was produced by a totally different formation: Kim Tae-Won on guitar, Jeong Dong-Cheol on drum, Jeong Jun-Gyo on bass, and Park Wan-Gyu on the microphone. This 5th album was produced by a different production house and thus they’re now out of the market, but I heard that Boohwal Entertainment has recently obtained the copyright back, so hopefully we’ll be able to find it back in the market soon.

The video below is a live performance where they sung 3 songs from the fifth album: 불의 발견 I  (Discovery of Fire I), 21C 불경기 (21st Century Recession), and 마술사 (Magician), followed with “Open Arms” by Journey. I think the sound is a bit off on this video though, but the original CD sounds way better. 21 C 불경기 is also one of the “must” songs that Boohwal usually plays in live concerts that I’ve been to up to now.

이것저것 가릴 것 없이 세셍에 돈이 최고라고 (no matter what, they say money is the best in the world)
술잔을 기울여 대는 그런 장사가 어떠냐고 (how about pouring beer for business?)
당장엔 도움도 안될 고리타분한 책보다는 (compared to an old-fashioned book that won’t be of any quick help)
하소연할 진할 술잔이 요샌 더 필요한 거겠지 (a drinking glass where one can complain to is more needed at this time)

*어느길로 가야하나 (which way should I take)
무얼해서 돈을 버나 (what should I do to earn money)
세상경험이 더 많은 저분 말대로 할까 (shall I do as that man with more life experience said)

**어느길로 가야하나 (which way should I take)
무얼해서 돈을 버나 (what should I do to earn money)
그 누구처럼 돈을 벌어 (earning money like that someone)
정승처럼 쓰면 되지 (so I can spend money like a minister)

어떻게 살아가는게 현명하다는 생각인지 (which way of living is a wise?)
수많은 저 얘기들이 내 위로 떠다니는 걸 (those many stories are drifting to comfort me?)

Lalalalalalala lalalalalalalala

Where the hell are we going now

요즘같이 이 불경기에 무슨 순수며 정서냐고 (in this recession period, what is pure and emotion?
꽃을 그린 그림을 파는 그런 장사가 되겠냐고 (could one make a business out of drawing flowers and selling them?)
70년대 소설책같은 추억을 만들기 보단 (compared to making memories like a 70’s fiction stories)
한번에 전부 이뤄지는 그런 사랑이 더 필요하지 (we need a love to accomplish everything with one strike)

* ** (repeat)

[Discovery of Fire]

Sometimes I’m amazed just how ignorant I could be.. =_=;; “Discovery of Fire I,” the title of Boohwal’s 5th album. I think I’ve heard it many times in concerts, but since Boohwal likes to re-arrange songs to go along with each other… I must have thought it as a part of another song.

Feel the guitar~! The first of “Discovery of Fire” and the second part of the trilogy, “Discovery of Fire II”~ ^^

It seems like Kim Tae-Won was more into heavy metal during the latter 1990’s. The third part of the trilogy gives a strong feel of the 90’s rock (I’m a fan of Mr.Big, Air Supply,Bon Jovi, too, to mention a view^^_)

Boohwal Collaboration Project +1 [Secret]

Yes, as I and many hard-core fans have predicted, the first partner in Boohwal’s Collaboration Project was Park Wan-Kyu (박완규). You shouldn’t be unfamiliar with him, since he was Boohwal’s vocalist for the 5th album. “Lonely Night,” was a song inserted in that album, that Kim Tae-Won specially made to match his voice. He literally owns the song with his high pitch voice and strong shouting~ This song, “Secret” (비밀) obviously is made for Park Wan-Kyu, too.

Check out this link to listen to other songs by Park Wan-Gyu.

The song “Secret” was officially released today, and you could buy the digital single through THIS LINK.
Or through I-Tunes (click here)~ ^^

(Secret)

Sitting across an empty chair, sometimes I speak by myself
I don’t know when it started, I often look back

Seasons changed like a secret, wounds heal

Fluttered you, fluttered you, becomes a poem

I miss you so much, I come to miss you, sometimes I’d close both my eyes
The days when you and I loved each other, the day when we broke up, became a memory

I long for you, I long for you, your name like flows to my lips for me to call
I loved you so much, loved you so much, seems like you’re always inside of me~ you’re there

Expect the second Collaboration Project coming out this February! ~ ^^

Ow, and needless to say, the song is composed and written by Kim Tae-Won~ 🙂

Lonely Night

It’s very very tardy of me to only post “Lonely Night” now after so long… Lonely Night is definitely one of Boohwal best, and a song that they almost never miss performing (at least in the concerts I’ve been to). This song also has a special meaning for Boohwal itself, for it ensured (Boohwal)’s position again in the music industry. After being left by their third vocalist, Kim Tae-Won met Park Wan-Gyu (박완규) and wrote this song matching to his voice tone.

Lonely Night was released in Boohwal’s 5th album, 불의 발견 (The Discovery of Fire), in 1997.

Lonely Night

(Written and Composed by Kim Tae Won)

.
Lonely Night Lonely Night
Lonely Night so Lonely Night
.
Lonely Night Lonely Night
Lonely Night so Lonely Night
.
Lonely Night Lonely Night
Lonely Night so Lonely Night
Lonely Night Lonely Night
Lonely Night so Lonely Night
.
so Lonely Night so Lonely Night Lonely Night

Now, the video below is a more recent version of “Lonely Night” shot in 2006. And, it’s an unplugged version, so you can really feel the difference. Another special point? Except for Kim Tae-Won himself, of course, all of the musicians here were current Boohwal members (different from the original version). Bassist Seo Jae-Hyuck, Drummer Chae Jemin, Vocalist Jeong Dong-Ha.

You can also check out Boohwal’s live performance from1997, where the members (except for Kim Tae-Won, of course) were all different from the current one. Bassist Jeon Joo-Gyo, Drummer Jeong Dong-Cheol, and Vocalist Park Wan-Gyu.
